About Us

The Orangeville Curling Club was formed in 1888 and incorporated under the provisions of The Ontario Companies Act, SO 1907, Chapter 34 on December 15, 1910.  The Constitution and By-Laws that were enacted at the time of incorporation have been amended throughout the years with the latest amendments being approved by membership on September 18, 2013.

The OCC occupied a facility on John Street, just south of Broadway until 1958.  This was a 2-sheet curling arena.  The Orangeville Curling Club sold the property to Tweedsmuir Presbyterian Church to expand their facility.  They then looked for an opportunity to work with the Town of Orangeville or another organization to rebuild a larger, more-modern facility to accommodate their growing membership.  One of the options they looked at was curling in the old arena on Elizabeth Street (burned down approx. 40 years ago).  This did not seem like a suitable option at the time so the Directors approached the Orangeville Agricultural Society who wanted to build a new building to show agricultural animals and products during their annual fair as well as a facility that would be suitable for rentals, meetings and showing the home portion of their fair.  The Orangeville Agricultural Society already owned the land and together with the monies garnered from the sale of the Orangeville Curling Club site and a grant through the government, the facility was built in 1958; and, a 200-year lease agreement was struck for $1per year.  In 1997 The Orangeville Agricultural Society sold the land that the fairgrounds stood on to Rio-Can where the Fairgrounds Shopping Centre currently exists.  The Agricultural Society still owns the land under the curling club up to and including one foot on the outside of the facility.

The Orangeville Curling Club is a not-for-profit corporation that is member-driven.  The funds that operate the club come from the following funding sources:  membership fees, bar revenues, pro-shop sales, rentals, advertising, grants, fundraising, special events, spiels and donations.  On top of regular league play, our curling club hosts several bonspiels, Ontario Curling Association competitions, school curling leagues, learn-to-curl clinics and welcome everyone from 6 to 106 (of all abilities) that wish to participate in the sport of curling.  We are a very busy club that succeeds by the hard work, dedication and commitment of the team as a whole.
